In short: Captured by the Itju-Sha in Anauroch, the party meets Ouraeus — and Rik decapitates Icarus in the fighting pit.
Summary
The party awoke not dead, but washed ashore in the scorching desert of Anauroch, stripped of their gear and surrounded by the Itju-Sha — the Takers of the Sand — a gang in scrap-metal armor with crude sand vehicles. Icarus's Minor Illusion act of defiance ("We will get on the truck!") drew the attention of their leader, the scorpion-man Tlincalli, who flailed, chain-grappled, and venom-paralyzed him before throwing him into a caged truck. The party was transported to the Itju-Sha hideout: a settlement built into the colossal skeleton of a desert leviathan.
In the cage, they met Ouraeus, who identified himself as a Medji-Tzentak — "Sons of the Keeper" — and claimed it was his destiny to help them escape, but only after they survived the fighting pit. Guards dragged Rik into the arena against Tlincalli's champion, a massive half-orc fresh from an execution. What followed was stunning teamwork: unarmed, Rik baited the goliath; Wild Fury cast Command to make him drop his weapon; Icarus landed Hold Person; and Rik decapitated the champion with the warrior's own weapon on a critical hit.
Amused, Tlincalli threw Icarus into the pit to face the victorious Rik. Realizing his earlier Wild Magic surge would reincarnate him on death, Icarus knelt and invited the blow. Rik obliged — decapitating his friend and stunning the crowd into silence.
